No problem solving for mach3 - windows 7 64 bit?
« on: July 08, 2012, 09:03:36 AM »
Hello.

I see there are a few threads about the windows 7 64 bit, and mach3.
Im now changing my old computer, because i cant do ANYTHING, when i run my machine without loosing steps.

I install W7 on my old living room pc.

But i cant get the machine run.

Is there something i can do know to run mach3, or do i have to install Windows Xp ?

Thanks!

Robert.

The only way to use Windows 7 64bit is to use an external motion controller like the Smoothstepper.
The 32bit Version of Windows 7 should work fine, though.

Mach3 on XP probably uses less than 1/2Gb of RAM.

So how are people using Smooth Stepper with Windows 7?
The docs say it only works with 2000, xp and Vista.

Oh, before I forget, Thanks for screwing us all, Micro$oft!

I have been running my Mikini mill and Emco lathe using Mach3, windows 7 with the Ethernet smoothstepper, for about a year now. I have never had any issues with the Mach3 , Win7 and Smoothstepper combo. I built both computers myself. The specs are as follows...

Foconn mother board...   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186216
Intel Celeron G530 Sandy Bridge Cpu...  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116409
2 gig of ddr3 ram
64 gig SSD drive

Both computers have a second nic card installed and are always connected to my network and the internet (for updates). They also have Microsoft security essentials for virus protection.

Here's a video of it in action (the mill). The mill has been completely redone...new spindle motor, new stepper motors and digital drives, PMDX126 breakout board, Hitachi WJ200 VFD.

and here are the brackets machined in the video  .....

Hi,

This is an older post, but since it came up in Google, I will clarify the details.

An ESS (Ethernet SmoothStepper) or USS (USB SmoothStepper) will run on Windows XP through Windows 10, 32 bit or 64 bit.
