Which breakout board are you running?
« on: May 07, 2011, 08:54:38 AM »
I'm having to select a different board.

The PMDX-122  looks really good. How do you hook up a controller for a VFD?

They have a PMDX-106 for interface with the PMDX 122. It is a VFD control board.

Do some of you have any other suggestions?

How easy was your board to connect and get running?  Any glitches with Mach3?

Thanks,

JAckal

PMDX 122 is an excellent quality single port BOB but only has I/O for 1 port. The 126 I think has two ports worth of I/O  and might be a good option to look at, also they have Spindle Control boards that plug directly into the PMDX 126. I have never used the 126 but know quite a few who have and they are liking it.

Thanks Hood,

I just ordered a PMDX 126, a 107 spindle to VFD controller, and (3) Gecko 320x drives.

The Dugong saga continues. My full refund is on the way.

I really need supplies that can be sent to me   quickly. This machine will be a money making machine, not a hobby.

There will be a spare drive, encoder, etc, on the shelf in case it quits in the middle of a job.

That is the reason behind the parts chosen above.

Availability from 2 weeks out to 3 months  is something that makes me uneasy.

Some suppliers have assured me that they had a product in stock, and would ship it out the same day.

A week later, no parts.

I paid for the other stuff way back in March, still no parts.

Thats sad to hear :( I had been in hopes that the Dugong drives were filling a space in the market between the lower end drives such as Geckos etc and the Industrial drives. Maybe the problems in Japan have impacted on their supply but its a shame when the truth about delivery is not told.

PMDX have always been spot on for me and likewise Gecko, both companies have been on the go for a while so hopefully they will continue for a long time yet.
Getting at least one spare drive is a god idea and its something I like to do.
Hope things start progressing a bit better from now on.

I asked somewhere about the Japan tragedy, and it causing a delay in electronics like the Dugong drives.

Someone said the Dugongs were  built and assembled in the USA, and then some final assembly and testing was performed in Hungary.

Balazs the owner  of ( Dugong drives) told me in an e-mail that they were waiting a USA shipment so they could get them ready and send them back to the USA distributor.

According to him, they would be air shipped here last week. ??? ???

Could be a  Japanese  supplier affected the USA builder.

Maybe  the rest of the retro will go better.

I know it will,  once  some parts get  here  to start working with. :D

Thanks to all,
