Hi , have a router with a normal on off type brushed router and its way too noisy. What are the alternatives? a stepper or servo? or a brushless dc ? does anyone make one with the collet chuck already attached? Have drawn a blank surfing the web so would be grateful for any help from you guys

Hey, I have one of those! I have just tried it out on my workbench but it runs very quiet.

A new router speed control is coming out in a few weeks that should let you run your router at much slower (and quieter) speeds while still giving good power. There's more info in a thread at CNC Zone, but it's forum has been down all day.

Ger, could you pass on the link on the zone, please?

EDIT: Found it:  http://www.cnczone.com/forums/diy-cnc_router_table_machines/112658-super-pid_new_low-cost_router_speed_controller.html

Hi, the new low cost controller seems to be the way to go but have just sent off for a proxxon router as it has good write ups regarding noise levels. May keep my original router and try it if I can get hold of this new controller.
