Not seen your problem, dont often look at the FAQ part   but it could well be related.

It didn't solve all of the problem, but it did get the pulsed direction signals fixed.  I suspect my choice of computers yeilds noisy jittery parallel port signals.  Anyway, your suggestion fixed the warnings and the smoothstepper is running the machine perfectly at this point.
