Z axis plunges when starting?
« on: June 02, 2012, 08:24:58 AM »
I am just getting started in cnc wood working so this may not be explained properly but, When I zero the z axis, then hit cycle start, it will do a 1/2"-5/8" plunge into the work piece first thing. I have rechecked the zero several times and am not seeing what I could be doing wrong.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I am having the same issue, playing around a little, I belive it has to do with the setup , the part hieght, top of part,ect... I have found that if I hit the stop command before I hit the star button, the spindle raises up and strts correctly, I dont know why, still working on it. I will be happy when someone can explain it correctly.

Click edit gcode. A notebook window will open, just copy and paste that info.

hello, I think I have it, on line N80 z= 0.2000, this looks like the first z command I see, and it matches what appears to be your cutting height on line n90.  What I did was remove the z0.2000 at the end of n80 and type it back at the end of line n70, with an adjusted height to clear the material, this will send the command to go to the correct height before the machine moves to its first location.  I'm pretty sure this will work, there may be a better way as I am a newbie, but this worked for me., good luck!

Thank you. I will give it a try either late tonight or first thing in the morning.

On my machine, this moved the plunge location but it still plunges. Don't know if this helps put the g-codes were created by Cut3D.

Line N40 has a G43, tool length offset. That could be your problem.
