I am interested whether my thinking was correct or not in that copper would need higher currents. I just thought this going on my welding experience but thinking about it plasma likely doesnt really have to heat up the material like welding does so possibly there is no problems?

We only cut light gauge copper...like 20ga.  I just use the same setting as CR steel.  Copper does conduct heat better than steel though, so I could see how on heavier gauge copper a little more current may be needed.

Ok thanks, I know on the few occasions I have tigged copper heat exchangers I have needed a lot more current than I expected, then again although the copper itself is relatively thin (2to3mm) there is a lot of it so heat dissipates very quickly.

Hi Jim

You may already know but be careful with copper as some contains Berillium and if so the fumes can be carcinogenic.
