I'd be interested in your views about the currently available screen designers. What do you use? what do you think? Is there a place for a new kid on the block? or are you perfectly happy with what you have?

Cheers

I use Screen4. It's simple, and once you learn it's intricacies, it works very well. It's not perfect, especially the way the position dialog boxes work.

Machscreen is better, but it's always been unusable for me. I've tried multiple versions of it, and have always had it crash each time I've used it. I've never spent anytime trying to determine what caused the crashing. Since Screen4 has never crashed, I went back to it and stuck with it.

Yes, a new designer would be great, but I think it's usefulness may be soon coming to an end, as Mach4 will have no use for it.

are you saying Mach4 won't have customizable screens?

They'll be customizable from with Mach4 itself. Brian posted some info about it a few months ago on the Yahoo Group.

Don't get over there much these days but thanks for the info.

Depends I suppose on your definitions of "soon" and "Mach4" ;)

Anyway I'll give this thread a couple of weeks or so to see if there's any interest in a new designer - I've bashed out the basics but before I do any more... etc. etc.

It's unlikely that I'll ever do another Mach3 screen. I had planned on a widescreen version, but don't know if thee would be enough demand to justify the time.
I think that the delays in Mach4 may start driving people to look into other options.
Personally, I really want a version of Mach4 with S-curve acceleration like Quantum and Tempest for the new router I'm building. Brian said it would probably be at least a year after the release of Mach4 before we would see it. With the way development has gone for the past few years, I don't see it happening in the next 2-3 years. Depending on when I get the new router built, I may end up looking at an alternative control if Mach4 won't do what I need.

If you are familiar with flash you could make something like this

If someone would have provided some documentation, I would have. Since Mach4 won't support Flash screens, I think they are a dead end.
